Music Faculty awarded for Creativity

Liviu Marinescu, music faculty and composer, was awarded for his Exceptional Creative Accomplishments by the Faculty Senate.  The work Dr. Marinescu can be heard on “Liviu Marinescu Chamber Music,” a new CD from Capstone Records. 

The Daily Sundial has a new Publisher

Melissa Lalum joins the CSUN Department of Journalism as the new publisher of the Daily Sundial.  She is taking over for retiring Manley Witten, the Daily Sundial Publisher for the past 16 years.  Ms. Lalum most recently served as managing editor of the Daily News of Los Angeles, a post she had held since 2005. Lalum joined the Daily News in 1996, serving as assistant managing editor and design editor. Previously she was an assistant news editor at the Ventura County Star and a writer at the Tahoe World and Santa Barbara News-Press.

CTVA Students Wins Princess Grace Award

CTVA Senior Film student, Henry Fernandez, is the first CSUN student ever to receive a grant from the prestigious Princess Grace Foundation, which was established in the early 1980s to continue the legacy of Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, who throughout her lifetime anonymously helped emerging artists pursue their goals.  Read more about it at http://blogs.csun.edu/news/2008/08/19/grace/ 

CSUN Jazz A Band heads for Monterey

The CSUN Jazz “A” Band, conducted by Matt Harris, Music faculty, is headed to the Monterey Jazz Festival in September to perform on Sunday September 21, 2008.   Cal State Northridge’s 20-member Jazz "A" Band walked away with national first place honors in the College Big Band division of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s annual Next Generation Festival in spring 2008. It was the dense-sounding Cal State Northridge that earned the top position of the College Division and the performance slot at the 51st Monterey Jazz Festival.
